Selfish?

I’m constantly surrounded by people who believe they know more than I do about how the world works.  They tell me I’m wrong and need to conform to their ideas of the right way to live.

My brother says siblings, parents, and spouses should have priority over your time, money, and energy.  Once their needs, desires, and wants are satisfied, you can use your remaining time, money, and energy to satisfy your own needs, desires, and wants.  If you don’t do this, my brother says you are selfish and a bad person.

In addition, my brother says you should always know what others are thinking.  If you have to be told, you are a dodo and an idiot because you should always know what others want and do it automatically without being told.

My brother also has comments about public health in a post-COVID world.  He says you should assume everything outside the home is contaminated with human-killing germs and that people should regularly wear gloves and face masks whenever they leave the house.  He believes that items found or obtained outside of the home must be treated with extra precautions before or when you bring them into the house.  This includes when you get your mail or packages and bring them into your home.  He believes you should keep all mail and packages you bring into your home in a quarantine container for at least a week before you touch them without gloves or open them.  He uses a UV-sanitizing device for urgent items that can’t wait for quarantine.  He runs the device three times on the items and then opens them.

He believes you should assume all other drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians are about to do something stupid and cause an accident.  He believes you should heighten your awareness in December because the holidays make people do silly stuff more often.  He also believes you should heighten your awareness if it’s raining, because you might assume the rain is dirty and contaminated.
